Dr. gregory guannel

Greg is the Director of the Green Caribbean Center (CGTC) at the University of the Virgin Islands. The mission of the CGTC is to enhance the social and economic transformation of the U.S. Virgin Islands by teaching, developing, and helping implement the use of green technologies – renewable energy, green infrastructure and recycling/composting.  Previously, Greg worked as Florida Urban Programs Director for the Nature Conservancy, where he initiated and developed a varied portfolio of research, implementation and outreach efforts that promoted the use of natural systems to improve quality of life of vulnerable communities in Southern Florida, and mitigate the impacts of natural hazards. He also was a Post-Doc and Research Associate with the Natural Capital Project at Stanford, looking at how to model and design natural infrastructure for disaster risk reduction in cities and along coastlines. Greg started his career as a civil engineer with the sediment remediation consulting firm Anchor QEA. He has a M.S. in Civil Engineering from the Ecole Superieure des Travaux Publics (Paris), a M.S. in Ocean and Coastal Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University.
